I notice that other reviews have given this film a low rating. Why? No really? I think the acting standard was very good, and the storyline plausible. Beautiful landscape. Music atmospheric.
It exposes the reality of grief in a real way. When 'Edie' says she is finding it difficult to be around people, this can happen in grief. She also says, she doesn't want to share with others what has happened, adding why would she want to put others through it, they wouldn't understand. I guess if you haven't been through this level of grief, you wouldn't understand. Maybe that's what people are missing. I can relate to this film, and it addresses my own previous grief. Getting away from people and not wanting to be dependant on others can be a bi-product of grief. But it's not just about that, it's about trying to survive in the wilderness without the skills and appropriate tools. It is also about redemption. Unexpected underlying emotional issues entwined in the storyline, one is not revealed until the end.
The film works for me, and I reckon it works for others who have suffered deep grief and come out the other side.
