This is a student film. Reviewers that think people didnt get it or understand it, well there was not much to the film that needed comprehension. Not amazing, not deep, and doesnt deserve to be watched again. The reviewer that thought this was deep must either be in middle school or think Fast and Furious is high art. I didnt find it boring. I found it of such poor quality on all levels. Ive enjoyed many slow US and international films. Bad soundtrack, mediocre acting. It was style over substance where the director focused on scenery and cliched story and dialogue from watching so many films instead of life itself. It was life imitating art instead of art imitating life. For style, the homes and restaurants were cool and artsy but a mid-range architect cant afford such a house (like the cast of Friends being able to afford their apartment in expensive NY!)- but people in Hollywood industry have no idea. And on the flip side didnt make sense that without a partner, he would only live in a drab apartment even if he is still a well paid architect in Southern California (since La Jolla nearby). Riding the bus or train back from parties even though they live in a swanky home just because the bus/train scenery looks good with the background at night and him telling each version of his wives how he watches them from across the room at parties. (Gimme a break! Wasnt that from 16 Candles or Say Anything?) Epic Fail. Noticably tries too, too hard to have an ethnic mix of cast, main actor is too depressing and no drive as if the message is if you lose your mate from way back in college (from college when youre like 21, 22!) then youll give up on the rest of your life and never achieve the life you should have lived so you gotta be lonely and depressed forever (even though youre a professional, paid well, and fairly attractive). No reason why sister couldnt just say her "friend" is her partner (what is this, Hallmark channel?), and no reason why her brazilian "friend" doesnt speak a single word of english (Portugal portuguese is spoken and sounds different). Again, tried too hard to be ethnic. And if they had said "La Jolla" one more time, i woulda lost it or else gone back in time to make sure director's parents never met. Trailer is super deceiving and i just didnt care for any of the characters (besides the actors' mediocre acting) - except for the pets. I wonder if Orlando Bloom is in some kind of financial trouble to have taken this role (like Nicolas Cage or Bruce Willis and the 20 movies each of them made last year) and delivered such a generic performance in order to get his paycheck. Very disappointed. Director and writer need to go back to school or intern somewhere and stop focusing on style, cliches, and how cool the film looks. Dont waste ur time.
