As Told by Ginger is one of those shows that you remember seeing at one point, but forgot all about it until it randomly popped into your head. I think I only saw one episode of this show (i was really little). I didn't get a full interest in the show until my senior year of high school (I was watching clips of the show online - thanks NickSplat!) and judging by what I saw, I feel there is some sort of character development in many of the characters.
Ginger Foutley is one of the standout characters in the show, and being that character, she tries to navigate through life while trying to be more of a cool girl and less of a social geek. I did notice a flaw in her character and that flaw is that she tries to act a bit more mature than she actually is, leading to some unexpected results
Macie Lightfoot is perhaps one of Ginger's real friends, and she does have a "cutesy" demeanor as she is very outspoken; considering that she is rather shy, she's probably afraid she might mess up what she is trying to accomplish. One flaw I noticed in her development is that she is always persuaded into doing things she doesn't want to do, especially when they know they're wrong.
Dodie Bishop is perhaps the WORST character on the show. She tries to be Ginger's best friend, but she always seems to radiate "pick me" energy; one notable example is this one episode where she finds out that Ginger got the lead in a school play and Dodie became extremely upset because she believes that part should belong to her. Throughout the episode, she grew increasingly jealous over Ginger getting the lead instead of just being happy that her friend got the part. honestly, I am not sure why Ginger is still friends with Dodie as it's proven that Dodie is actually a very toxic person who thinks the world revolves around her.
If I can think of a flaw for this show, I would say it has something to do with the art style. The purposeful "ugly-cute" styles of Klasky Csupo (pronounced Class Key Chew Po) works for more wacky children's shows, such as "Rugrats" or "The Wild Thornberrys"; the art style does not do the show justice. It's like how can one consider themselves pretty than someone else when they both look like weird blobs? The art style is definitely a turn-off for multiple people (hence why there are 4 stars out of 5)
Regardless, it is a great TV Show that teens can relate to, and it does have some amazing characters (except for Dodie); and it seems as though they do a great job exploring different topics and issues. Not saying they will but I wonder if this show will benefit from a reboot.
