this show was brutal (both literally and metaphorically)! truly something not ordinary, not that it hasn’t been done before, but the way they carried the show throughout is different from what i have ever seen before. it has cool and distinctive graphic that makes the anime looks so fashionable and really felt like it came out from the future. the soundtracks are absolute bangers, the audio directors really know how to put the songs on the right time to play with our emotions. i know that the anime was based off of the game, but the story still feels very unique, though i wouldn’t say that it was that well made.
i think that where’s the story has it’s weakness. the pace of the whole show was too fast, almost makes it seems like David is using his Sandevistan for running the show lol, hence the name, edgerunners i guess? but well, there are a lot of things happening and going on in all of the episode that it is quite hard to process. Instead of going for only 10 episodes, i think it would’ve been better to make it longer for the story to develop a lot better. personally for me, 12-14 episodes would be a good choice.
there are also a few things that seems missing, like the past of the characters, it never showed what really happened outside of night city, and the lack of robots? i didn’t play the game so i don’t know what’s actually going on, but i think it’s kind of weird that the show sets in the far future yet it seems like there are only a few of robots appeared there. the robots could’ve replaced the human police officers and some characters so their deaths wouldn’t be so gruesome for me.
i didn’t really know where the first few episodes were going to, but the end really feels like it’s catching up to everything and makes me have to hold my breath. for watchers that tends to like a more solid and compact plot with a whole lot of backstory, they might not be really into this anime. But with that being said, this was a pretty compelling anime.
Good job! I love to give this series an 8/10. Really, it’s something fresh and new in the 21st century.
