As with all Isbell’s work, I love the lyrics. So let’s get that out of the way. This album is different. I love the guitars. The keys. The drum sound is incredible. Jumbo’s bass on “Miles” sets this song up for success. Amanda Shires isn’t as prominent in this record, but where she appears, she shines. The way this album was recorded and produced is another level for this band. I love the way it’s panned. Jason using his own voice for harmonies is excellent. It sounds like he used most of not all the tracks available on this record. It’s full, but not busy. Best album I’ve heard in 30 years.
