So I’ve read the book in middle school, again in high school, and again in adult hood. I’ve watched the 1995 version about a million times so it’s really my own fault this movie was a let down. There were some aspects I liked, and some I really truly hated. Firstly, I don’t think they depicted the Bennett’s wealth very accurately and I HATED Lydia. Like HATED her much more than I disliked the mother. Her acting was over the top and in my opinion, unnecessary. I don’t think they represented the characters in the book.
Secondly, Mr. Darcy was a huge let down to me. I don’t feel he portrayed longing very well which didn’t make me really fall in love with him like I wanted to. Sad.
Lastly, I knew the movie was going to feel rushed because they have so much to pack into just two hours, so that wasn’t a bother but I felt they could have put more emphasis on more important parts on the book than they did.
To end, my dislike was mainly due to some of the characters and representation choices made during direction. The movie was okay, I think I’m just biased to Colin Firth…
