The Theory of Everything is simply one of those must-see movies so if you haven't watched it already then I would strongly recommend it.
It's a biopic drama about Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane Hawking. The acting is truly superb. Eddie Redmayne nails the role of Stephen Hawking and portrays the disabling affects of ALS really well. Felicity Jones defines what true love means as Jane Hawking and depicts the struggles she faced throughout the course of her life with Stephen.
I think it might have been nice to see a little bit more from Jane's side, especially since this movie is based on her book.
However, overall, the movie itself is a touching and inspirational tale. It begins with Stephen Hawking as a college student and how his life with Jane unfolds after his diagnosis. It does have some suggestive material that might not be best for younger kids and frankly they might think the movie is slow or boring unless they're super interested in science.
I was disappointed by the fact that the movie didn't really seem to explain why the marriage between Stephen and Jane Hawking fell apart. Jane does develope feelings for another man, but she remains loyal and faithful to her husband despite all of the hardships.
It ends shortly after his book "A Brief History of Time" was published and gained international fame. It's kind of strange and unsatisfactory in a way, but also poignant at the same time; leaving questions much like Stephen Hawking had prior to his death. It definitely would prompt some viewers with an appetite to learn more about Stephen Hawking. Which I believe is a good thing.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. It was thought-provoking and a testament to what one can accomplish. As long as there is life there is hope. ..Amanda Gray..
