This book is terrible - I can totally understand if maybe you’re a teen, it’ll be the best thing ever as it’s easy to read and quite fast paced. But if you’re a voracious reader used to quality, this isn’t for you. It’s been written very deliberately with the hope it’ll be made into a film, that much is obvious.
Not only is the entire set up cliche, but the “how convenient” moments are eye rollingly terrible. Lily ‘just so happens’ to move to Boston but not for Atlas, despite him saying he’d be there? Ryle being a neurosurgeon, wealthy fluffy family, a childhood trauma that just so happens to match something he sees as an adult, dashing Christian Grey worthy looks, fulfilled dreams, absolutely no meaning… I mean. It’s sickly.
The whole abuse angle felt really off, poorly explained and done for suspense which I feel is disrespectful in honesty. If you want to read a good book of a similar theme read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, it will change your life.
Anyway, the ending, well… I’ll leave that to you to decide but if Ryle went off at a magnet, imagine what he’s going to do when he realises his daughter is going to grow up with the third person from their marriage all along.
