While it is true that the start of Elemental has many parallels to previous Pixar movies in regards to character introductions, the story itself does take on a life of its own. The characters, their struggles, and the atmosphere in which they live are wonderfully written, and the visuals are everything you've come to expect from a Disney/Pixar film.
