What it is: Skyrim + Fallout in space.
What it's not: a space simulator like Elite or No Man's Sky.
Exploration is a feature, not the main objective of the game. Scanning planets and collecting materials does have rewards, but the quest lines are the point of the game. Don't be surprised that Starfield has more in common with other Bethesda titles than other space themed games.
I'm not sure where the idea came about that this game was No Man's Sky "Bethesda style" but it's not, so if you enjoy Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout you'll probably like Starfield. There's no wrong way to play, you can go some surprising directions with your character.
4 stars because you can't fly around the planet. It's minor overall but without a vehicle walking around does take forever.
