As an amateur climber, people have been telling me to watch climbing films for year. I had absolutely zero interest. I don't like watching sports. I don't like documentaries. I don't care about people climbing high walls. I'd watched Touching the Void and found it incredibly boring. So when I got loaned The Dawn Wall, my expectations were low. I put it on more because I wanted to crochet than because I wanted to watch it.
I was really, really pleasantly surprised. Between the filmmakers' storytelling and the touching nature of the climbers' emotional journeys and support of each other, I genuinely enjoyed this film, to the point where I'm considering buying a copy. It made me feel emotions, and it was at times so engaging that I had to pause crocheting. So yeah, to my great surprise, I'm giving this 5 stars and recommending you have a watch.
