It's good, but not as good as 1883. 1883 was beautiful and poetic and you felt attached to Elsa from the first episode. You felt like you were on the journey with them, immersed in their world. Having her narration bring her inner thoughts to life is something they should have continued with an active character of this series. I miss that element, and having her voice over the begining and end of the episodes in a Meredith grey from greys anatomy kind of way just doesn't have the same effect. 1883 was told in first person, and 1923 is shot in 3rd, which I think makes a huge difference. I think it would have been better to separate the episodes to follow one story line to a point, vs jumping around to 3 completely unrelated stories back and forth throughout the episodes. It takes away some of the grandure that 1883 had I also felt the story was rather lazy, seeing as they borrowed the outline of the story from legend of the fall in a lot of ways. Which would have been ok if they then made the characters really stand out on their own. But they didn't. I'm halfway thru the series and I don't really like or care about any of them, but I feel invested now. The "villains" are too villainous which makes them seem unreal, and the "good guys" are simply too boring and not likeable. I also don't love most of the casting. One of the worst being, Spencer's. His character is supposed to be moody and brooding but he isn't likeable enough. They should have picked someone with a bit of humor to them. Like Sawyer from lost, Damon from vampire diaries, or even like his counterpart brad pit in legends of the fall. All damaged and sullen, but with redeeming qualities still. But the worst casting of all is in Spencer's girl. She ruins what could have been a very interesting story line, but she is unbearable in every scene. They wrote her as an adventurous, sexually free, very young nieve girl who runs out of her wedding to run off with a stranger she had a brief uninterested encounter with, and there are constant remarks on her beauty. But she doesn't play or fit the role well, and comes off annoying and waspy. She is the worst part of this show.

This movie left me feeling rage filled. Had a lot of potential to be a good movie, and purposfully and artfully chose not to because "chaos is artistic". It was rushed and pieced together as a "the house is haunted the kids are evil jump scares everywhere" classic horror movie, and also lazy and slapped together as a "fever dream what is real what is symbolism psychedelic horror" they made it seem like your typical scary movie up until the last 5 minutes, then threw in a unnecessary twist for no reason that simply made it irritating, not the mind bender they had intended This felt like they had to many balls in the air and at the end, they dropped all of them and left me very unsatisfied and confused. And not in the good "can't stop thinking about it cause it was artsy and complex" kind of way. They had like 5 different story lines that they were seeming to go in. 1. The boy is evil and the girl is dead? (Why can't she leave the property? Why does she think that will kill her. Why does the maid go along with that?) 2. The house and grounds are haunted and the boy is possessed by a creepy guy and her mission is to put the soul of a woman who mysteriously died to rest. 3. Her mother is crazy (they touched on it so briefly and vaugly I had almost forgot till the very end) and she's now going crazy 4. The kids are just little sheitz and they are playing a trick on her and making her feel crazy (but that doesn't even really track cause there's stuff that they COULDNT do) 5. It's all just symbolism and none of it is real Accept none of those things ever come to a head or make any sense and it simply goes in 5 directions and then just ends. So lazy and the worst kind of directoral move Also what was with all the random strung together symbolism and repetition? The broken faced dolls and manaquins? The skin picking? The repetitive random noises? The nirvana references? The random creepy figures? The things turning on and moving even though they have no other purpose than to be jump scares? The horses and horse riding? The random calls to her friend and mom that didn't seem to matter at all? Why? It gets two stars because it was enjoyable to watch when you thought it was at least going to get SOMEWHERE, but the ending ruined it. Trash.

Just finished watching the fist two seasons of this very intriguing and authenticly directed show. A very raw and layered look into the intricacies of one of the most misunderstood and horribly represented religions and people. I myself am not Muslim, but growing up I had lots of friends who were, have dated Muslim guys, and have worked for several families. I thought that the representation of the complexity of balancing tradition, religion, modernization, and self realization with the ever looming over tone of being a good person, and being a good Muslim. If you have ever had any interest in the Muslim culture and religion, watch it. It's awkward and slow at times, but overall a really interesting, entertaining and educational show. It has the stylistic quality that shows like Atlanta, Dave, and Insecure all share

This movie had a very interesting premise, and good acting, but I feel like it was one of those movies that was too long, and they cut too much of it and the plot really suffered for it. Certian things never quite add up, others are simply seem unnecessary or like we are expected to have more information than we do. Maybe if it had been done like a limited series, or a longer movie with more detail and paced better, it would have been amazing. I got what they were going for, someone struggling with addiction and or mental illness, some one who has trouble deciding what is reality and what's not. But I feel like it wasn't executed as well as it could have been. Maniac with Jonah hill and Emma stone was a similar premise, but took the time to build properly and I felt made it a better in comparison.

Typical and predictable, but worth watching. Acting is ok. Graphics are good. Story is basic but it was entertaining.

Weird movie. Could have been a good plot. Could have been an interesting story. Great acting. Horrible script. And strange directing. I get that your supposed to be immersed in their madness, but they didn't build to their decent enough. They didn't explain enough why she just slipped down this slope with him. Why did the doctor smoke her crack? It felt like they started like 4 different parts of the story, and didn't really need them or wrap them up. An hour and a half of my life I'll never get back.

The most cringe worthy over acted unfunny boring show I've seen in a long time. I feel like they were going for the exaggerated larger than life characters that shows like always sunny in philadelphia, the league, arrested development, and new girl did, accept it's not raunchy enough to pull it off in that way. And it didn't make up for it with funny dry humor either, like schitts creek. It just really missed the mark and is painfully unfunny. Horrible writing. Horrible character build. Horrible acting. Horrible everything. Yuck. All around yuck

Honestly such a good movie. One of the best movies ive seen in a while. I liked the character build of jack, and i think it creates a good depiction of what a violent scociopath is like. In his mind, in his everyday, and that as things went on there did seem to be a part of him that wanted to be caught. This movie is just the right balance of artistic yet realistic, while not becoming self indulgent like so many other “artistic” film can become It also doesn’t give you pointless information or random long scenes for no reason. Everything in the end does end up symbolising something and not just to seem avant- garde and unique, which I appreciate. It is a very blunt Film and accept for the end there is little to know soundtrack telling you something is scary or gruesome, but you feel that way anyway. It doesnt rely on that to guide you through it. There is quite a lot of symbolism in here, it is an art film after all, and i would suggest either during or after the film looking up Dante’s inferno, the eylisian fields, traits of a scociopath, and the history and or symbolism of The piano player and some the other artists named. It will provide some context to parts of the movie.
