I absolutely love this show, so much so that I go back and watch old episodes. I was just watching season 1 episode 3 again and I got infuriated when the one Cannaday relative seemed to be proud of the fact that her ancestors produced their own slaves ( master sleeping with slave women) because slaves were so expensive. That fact led Dr. Gates to come to the conclusion that Jeffery Canada had a white ancestor in his maternal line. This led me to wonder if this was an acceptable practice of the day economically for the white slave holder to sleep with the slave women to produce children as future workers. It seems so heartless and clinical. I just can’t understand this part of history.
