TLDR: Lively visuals, good song choices, STUNNING fight choreography, but sadly overused humor and leaky plot.
I gatta say this movie did the opposite of what I expected; Usually Mikey, Donnie, and Ralph’s personalities outshine and blanket over Leo, making him kind of forgettable as his only standing characteristic is being the leader (Mikey being go with the flow and eccentric, Raph a thick skulled and impatient brute, and Donnie a tech whizz excited to show anyone his inventions). However in this movie they went the complete opposite way.
They mostly focused on him, how he felt, and his decision making and care for his brothers and splinter. But that left everyone else overshadowed, it was impossible to really tell any of the other three apart if they were to all look the same, no real defining traits to their character and kind of making them all jerks to Leo.
Honestly loved what they did with Leo, best representation of him I’ve seen so far, but it blocked the rest of the brothers from any spotlight and made them feel 2D next to Leo :/
The jokes were overused and unflattering, I never thought I would have to hear someone say the word “milking” so many times. The throw up scene was so gross and ran on for a few moments too long and I had to literally look away, things can be funny and gross, but that was just gross.
The plot was not built solid enough and by the end it was falling apart. The villain lady didn’t even feel threatening or evil, she was too goofy to be taken seriously, it would have worked better if she was secretly working with Super Fly or a mutant herself to give her more depth in her goals.
Highly recommend for kids who not get upset over the bending of canon when it comes to two of the villains, or for people who wanna see it for the animation. Personally I never want to see this film again, if you can even call it that, but I’m glad the children in the audience found it fun.
