Watching this for the first time in 2024, I wonder if I would find it as offensive and inappropriate if I watched it at least 5 years ago.
Itโs a fun movie, I wonโt deny that. But here is my take on each couple/storyline:
Collin & the American girls: What on godโs green earth was that evenโฆ? 0/10
Juliet, Peter & Mark: They had me thinking mark was in love with his best friend Peter, which would actually be interesting. but then they made it a bland stereotypical โin love with the brideโ plot. Did not like the part where Juliet kissed him. 1/10
Harry, Mia and Karen: Cheating on a Christmas movie was NOT what I was expecting. Mia pissed me off so bad, and so did Harry. The only reason this isnโt getting a lower rating is because Karen confronted Harry in such a satisfying manner. I wouldโve liked a deeper view into this plot line to be honest. 3/10
David & Natalie: Man of power falls for his secretary. Plenty of body shaming from all sides to top that off. Prime minister wasnโt a douche though and we appreciate that. 5/10
Jamie & Aurelia: Writer and his housekeeper. Seeing a pattern here. The part where he went to Portugal was as if they tried to see how many racist stereotypes they can fit in one scene. Cute couple but it was pretty offensive at some points. 5/10
John & Judy: wholesome, unproblematic couple. Unfortunately Iโm pretty sure the only purpose of their storyline was so that the production could fit in as many mature scenes as possible without looking too out of place though. 7/10
Sarah & Karl: Now this was a complex dynamic that I would absolutely watch a whole movie on. It deserved way more screen time, and Iโm sad we didnโt get to see more of them and of how Sarah might or might not get her social life back. 9/10
Sam & Joanna: Such cute little kids. Happy for them. 10/10
Billy & Joe: This one actually made me emotional. People realizing who really has been by their side for so long and learning to appreciate them is always heartwarming. 10/10
