I have watched a decent amount of TV shows. I have emotionally committed myself to these shows and their characters. Six Feet Under is something else. Its writing is genius. The way the story is told is incomparable in my opinion. I first watched Season 1 when it aired on Channel 4 in the UK in 2001. I was 16 years old, but I loved it. It drew me in, but that's where it stopped for me. I didn't watch the rest of the show until 2020. Life kind of got in the way after Season 1 and I never got around to finishing the series. Then the Lockdown for COVID-19 occured, so it was the perfect time to finally get around to watching it all.
Six Feet Under is a show like no other. I really thought that I had seen some of the best shows on TV; that nothing could ever be so good that it could be number one and never be topped (this is largely in part to the series finale), but this show has done just that. After watching the finale, it was everything it needed to be. Each Season has something different; something that makes you think. The fact that it focuses on such a mortifying and macabre subject matter makes it even more relatable.
The characters and the actors were perfect. Peter Krause is Nate, Michael C. Hall is David; every character was portrayed perfectly. Each characters story arc was penned to perfection. You honestly couldn't ask for more out of them. A lot of the time, I'll be left with so many questions after finishing a TV show. Finding plot holes or things that I felt didn't make sense and therefore left me feeling frustrated. Six Feet Under does a brilliant job of telling a story where you don't feel that way at all. Instead of frustration, I was left with joy, heartache, sadness, happiness... every possible emotion.
I could write about this show for hours. I could write so much, but it still wouldn't do it justice. What I can and will say say is that I cannot stress this enough, this show is worth every second of your viewing. You will laugh, you will cry (well, I did anyway) and you will (hopefully) understand and appreciate the perfection that is Six Feet Under. Storytelling at its absolute best.
I loved Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, Stranger Things, American Horror Story, Breaking Bad... you name it. But nothing, nothing compares to this. Never has a series finale, even 15 years after it ended, ever affected me in this way.
Outstanding.
