This series is a solid - amongst other much flakier fare please consider reading this series for an idea of potential and execution. However, between book 2 and book 3 there is a dramatic about-turn on characters and their arcs which in any context is not earned - 100% a character can be x and become y (via good character growth through a plotted arc) but here much like series 8 Game of Thrones it feels a little rushed in what the characters choose to do and why they choose to do it. Book 2 established so much of a good ambiguity about several characters and that set-up feels a little wasted even though the overall tale is thoroughly enjoyable. It’s a shame that I have a feeling there could have been more to this series.
