The Greek god Chronos reference seems to be a hint at a rip in the space-time continuum which in science fiction leads to the possibility of time-travel. This 'reasoning' explains the scene where Josh Brolin returns to his ranch and finds that it's changed into a high security industrial site -probably a mine - a dystopian future he's arrived at courtesy of time-travel.
