An interesting concept - unfortunately His Only Son exhibits the poor writing that makes people gag when they think of Christian movies: heavy-handed messaging that sounds like it came straight out of a evangelism tract from 20 years ago, cringe-worthy treatments of women and slaves (all of Abraham's missteps are pinned on Sarah, Hagar is literally voiceless, and Abraham's male slave is basically told that he should be gratetful for his servitude because at least Abraham knows the true God), a plodding narrative, and a male hero who doesn't need to learn or grow because he always does the right thing (except when his wife forces him not to). I'm all in favor of faithful biblical adaptation - but it needs to be done right. His Only Son doesn't pass the test.
