There’s a lot of retcon going on here and it’s hard to suspend disbelief when it’s preceding an incredibly well established story. Are we also to believe that OWK decline is that severe just 10 or so years after this? That Leia doesn’t remember him for anything other than fighting alongside her father? It doesn’t help that some of the SFX are poor compared to the likes of The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. But when it comes down to it, the story just isn’t particularly good. It feels dragged out, and sparse. The performances are fine but they’re working with not very much.

The development of the character was great and Phoenix is excellent. But the link to the uprising and the Joker is tenuous at best.
