The characters seem like cheap imitations of the books. Percy has no wit or sass, Annabeth is rather bland, and Grover is kind of a bad friend. All in all, Percy just seems like a sad sack with little to none of his characterization as a defender. He's a pushover at Yancy and needs Grover to come to him. Then there's Sally. She reminds me so much of MJ from the Toby McGuire Spider-Man movies. It's awful. Also, if Gabe is killed at the end of this show, that'd be horrific. He isn't a horrible, monstrous villain. He's a bit lame, sure, but he doesn't seem to be an abuser. Sally is ready to go toe to toe with the man and even threatens him. I didn't have super high hopes going in, but it really feels as though the books were read and then discarded with only vague memories used as a source material.
