This film was enough to keep me interested but bothered me quite a bit after I watched it.
Being a "Weird West/Sci-Fi" fan, I like to watch fantasy mixed with period settings like season 1 of "Westworld" and the newest rendition of "War of the Worlds" and "The Burrowers" (if you haven't seen it check it out).
Shows like these had a ton of forethought put into them pertaining to sequencing, which is something this film lacks.
The problem I see with it, is while it had a lot of good ideas to play with, it put them in the wrong order.
Right off the top, giving away the main gag in the title was the major clue that the writer/director didn't know what to do with the finished production.
Next, the sequence of events took away a prime opportunity for a "gotcha" moment by giving up the lead character's background at the beginning, when it should have been explained with the opening of a certain "box" at the 3/4 mark.
The acting, cinematography, sets, props, cars, you name it were all great. Sam Elliott and the actor who plays his younger self, are great.
I just think it would have been a little more enjoyable if the "Squatch" hunt would have been at the beginning, the title a little more obscure, and the lead character's background/history explode on the audience with the opening of "the box" at the end of the movie.
In truth, it should be re-cut with only a few cheap re-shoots and it would be great!
As it is? ...Well, it's like the director over thought it and forgot that it's all about being 90 minutes of popcorn.
Wanna see a movie does well messing with timelines and "Squatch's"? Watch "The Sasquatch Gang".
