I kept finding myself wanting to enjoy it a bit more than I actually was. It looks lovely, the acting is astonishing, especially by the two central characters, but the project is dragged down by its self-indulgence. It should have been at least 10 minutes shorter for a start, and the three cameos, while entertaining, are ultimately a distraction. Less love here than in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, set just down the road and 4 years earlier.
