It’s a very different take on possession, suffering, faith and believing. The Catholic Church saying “yea no” at the request of an Exorcist makes the catholic priest an “extra” in this film. The film brings together different religions, believers and non believers together.
For a little context on this movie that at times feels a little hard to follow, it’s important to listen to the interview that Reagan’s mom gives and what she later tells the father.
After Reagan’s possession she discovered through years of research it’s not about the Catholic Church, it’s about bringing people together and their faith.
Reagan’s cameo lasted a mere 3 seconds at the very end. I guess it brings full circle to Reagan and her mom and closes those chapters. I get the movie but just wasn’t a fan.
The original truly captures the essence of demonic possession and this just felt too action packed with attempts at jump scares which felt odd for this kind of movie.
I feel as though this movie was made to sell a trilogy, but I don’t think it was necessary.
