The life of Madame CJ Walker was inspiring, this series, not so much. Ironically, a mini-series that should have been representative of Black female empowerment reinforces old racial stereotypes, tropes, and myths. Not only was Walker depicted as a Black woman who hated her Blackness and emasculated her husband, but her nemesis was portrayed as the "tragic mulatto." The colorism in this narrative is disturbing. Netflix focused more on entertainment than historical truth. There were so many important details left out of this story. Overall, this series was a wasted opportunity to share the life of powerful activist, and philanthropist.
