The movie was okay, and thatโs being generous. It had a lot of potential but was ruined by many avoidable problems.
My first problem was the repetitive surprises. As a horror fan, I usually can tell when something's about to happen, which makes the movie boring for me. Shockingly, I couldnโt guess what was going to happen only twice 1st time when I thought the father was going to kill his son, but instead they were carving the little boyโs head, and another when the women turned out to be vampires (that scene was unnecessary). Eventually, it became predictable, but the issue is that it happened way too often. It was surprise after surprise, and it got boring. "Oh, those women were actually vampires!" Or, "That guy who sank his fangs into that woman and killed her? Actually, he wasnโt a vampire." And the cranky neighbor? Yeah, he was the bus driver. Am I the only one who finds this boring?
Adding to this, the constant surprises that are just confusing made it clear the movie was trying to piece everything together and completely failing. It wouldโve been better if they left some details open for fans to interpret or made a sequel to clarify things, because the story felt rushed.
With all the plot twists, they should have focused more on the children and the old man. The father and the vampire woman felt irrelevant to the main story. There were just too many characters, and we saw more of others instead of the main villainโwhich baffles me. I wanted to see more of him, but he barely appeared.
And, like most horror movies from the past, thereโs some fan service. But it goes too far. Thereโs no reason to watch six minutes of a woman undressing to attack one man while Marilyn Manson (I think) is blasting in the background. Early in the movie, a kid was peeking through dressing rooms, which is totally unnecessary. I hate pointless fan service that doesnโt add anything to the plot, like in Friday the 13thโthough even that was too much.
