I have been reading Bernard Cornwell series and single books for years now. Saxon series, Sharpes series, warlord cronicles and single books like the Fort, and the books on the battles in France. I have always been captivated by his style, attention to history and subject. The saxon series or as some call it the Last Kingdom, I have read and re-read and when the series was created for the screen I was excited. Unfortunately after the first three seasons the creators of the TV series strayed from the books - not only from the actual plot, but in the characters. Killing off main characters and changing many characters personalities. The last season 5 episodes were particularly horrible, though the end was correct in Uhtred regaining Bebbanburg (yes that is how Cornwell spelled it). But the producers of the TV series started killng off characters in season 4 that were crucial in the plot and left people living that were supposed to die. And the personalities of key characters were changed, and worse yet not consistant from scene to scene. Even the fights between the armies were lame - not even adhearing to the great job that was done in the first three seasons. Shield walls and actual strategy not just rushing and screaming and waving swords.
I give a four of ten for season four, and 2 of ten for the last season. Please if you read this take the time to read the series and see how Bernard Cornwell meant it to be, dymamite books, lame production in the last two seasons.
