I cannot recommend this book enough! I've always been a massive fan of attachment theory, but I cannot stand the book "Attached.". That book feels like a textbook and doesn't offer a real path to healing for its readers. "Anxiously Attached" on the other hand offers clear exercises and walks you through the process of becoming a more secure lover and individual. It comes with exercises, insights, examples, and so much more to make the process of uncovering the true nature of our Anxious Attachment feel realistic and possible.
I've already recommended this book to many of my friends who identify as Anxiously Attached. Almost all of them have found extreme help and clarity from this book. The one caveat I tell people is that it is a LOT of work... as it should be though! Working to heal through our attachment issues is the act of rewiring your entire subconscious to experience love and relationships differently. It's not something that comes over night, and is definitely something you will benefit from doing along side a therapist. HOWEVER... if you can't afford therapy and know you are anxiously attached, then this is the absolute cheapest and best solution for you. Each chapter is like going to a therapy session and getting new insights on yourself and on life. Hell! Sometimes even just a subchapter was enough to give me a weeks worth of therapy homework. And you really don't feel alone in the process. Jessica has done an amazing job as an author to make you feel carried and seen as you read through her book.
I've done a lot of different healing in life and read many a good book on mental health and therapy. I've done this work for my own healing, but also so I can work with survivors of abuse and children in foster care in their healing journey as well. Some of my favorite books include "Man's Search For Meaning" (Viktor Frankl), "I Don't Want To Talk About it" (Terrence Real), "Mating In Captivity" (Esther Perel), "First, We Make The Beast Beautiful" (Sarah Wilson), and "Letting Go" (David Hawkins). Out of all the work I've done and out of all the books I've read, Anxiously Attached takes the cake when it comes to healing childhood wounds and re-learning how to love.
Jessica, you're amazing. Thank you so much!
