Arceus made me nervous after watching the short trailers prior to release, but I have to say after playing the game on release day I AM seriously IMPRESSED. As a 32 year old who has played every game since original black and white red or blue, I find that this is easily the greatest game they have released.
Pokemon spend more time visible rather than an abstract idea represented by a picture in the menus. You can throw your pokemon anywhere at anytime and interact with it and best of all you can have your whole team visable at once and they interact together!
Battles are amazing, spending hours in the same area with only 3 pokemon or so nearby is so captivating and enjoyable. I am in love!
Not to mention the new research mechanic turns hours of boring grinding, battle after battle into a fairly enjoyable option when deciding what to do next.
I spent over 5 hours in the first area which contains merely 5 or so species haha. And in The end I only left that area because my pkkemon were getting overpowered and the exp was no longer feasible for leveling. Otherwise I would have had no issue staying a little longer. And even at that I maybe, MAYBE completed 10 percent or so of the possible research tasks.
Lastly, some research tasks require you to evolve the pokemon 2 or 3 times so as you end up catching them over and over ( some tasks require 25 caught), you will naturally release the ones with lower stats, leaving you to level and evolve the best of the best of a certain species. Ugh! I could go on more and more.
Spoiler: the game presents itself as if this is the first time humans are encountering pokemon and every aspect of human pokemon interaction is new to the world, leading the way for a complete remake of the series with the new mechanics. I'm so excited 😊!!
