Such a waste...I say this as someone who believes that Candace has a certain talent but once again disappointed by her thorough inability to wade no further than skin deep into the issues. Yes 70% of black children in America are born to single mothers. However, a study by Robert Moffitt in 1992 found that welfare benefits can account for only a small fraction of the rise in the out-of-wedlock birth ratio. This is evidenced by the fact that not all single mother black families are poor.
In fact the majority (greater than 50%) live quite comfortably in the middle class and do not rely on welfare benefits for subsistence at all.
Not to mention that fatherless households in the black community rose sharply BEFORE the implementation of fatherless welfare benefits. Much of it can actually be traced back to a rejection of shotgun marriages and less availability of marriage worthy males. If you look at similar data for other racial/ethnic groups you will see that there is a similar rise now taking place for similar reasons...When you couple that with the divorce rate among other ethnic groups you actually end up with approximately 50% of all minors in the US growing up in single parent households of which 25% are black, 30% are white, 25% are Hispanic and the rest 2 or more races or other. Yes solidifying black families is needed and something needs to be done abot inner cities and the problems there but Candace, as in her other media platforms, uses just enough facts to sound plausible without identifying true root causes and as such her conclusions sadly miss the mark.
