I understand the medical criticisms that have been levelled against this film.....but one has to 'suspend disbelief' in order to get at a deeper emotional truth.
And this is certainly what this film does...with incredibly steering and subtle writing and performances.
As a study of grief it is entirely credible and heart rending.
As a nuanced study of marital and familial relationships....and an exploration of morality in the face of a need to blame, it is refreshingly honest and dies not shy away from the reality of pain.
