Like many others I really enjoyed this book in the beginning. The first 2/3 of the book were interesting, mysterious and kept my attention. Eventually religious themes and a predictable boring “twist” takes over. There are a few holes and character lines that never get resolved or got very little resolution while other threads are over done and beat to death. The repetition did not bother me so much in the beginning. It was stylistic and easily digested but as the last 3rd of the book began to unravel it became unbearable.
I still gave this book 3 starts because Christopher, his mother, Ambrose, and the Sheriff earned my appreciation as endearing characters. I could have done without Mary Kathrine, Jerry and a few of the grandmas.
