I found the opening sequence so baffling , especially once Denzel gets treated by the doctor. But his acting is/was so extraordinary and the context so different (and spectacularly beautiful) that I started to focus on the sheer drama and try to live in t he moment. The cafe scenes and McColl's (2 C's 2 L's) willingness to integrate are such a contrast to the revolting baddies ; the viewer knows, with lipsmacking anticipation, what will come later. I agree with another reviewer that the CIA plot and Dakota may be seen as gratuitous but, somehow, the movie needs a) to solve the opening scene and b) remind us that McColl has a serious and spectacular past. I loved the final Altamonte scene .
