The concept, acting and CGI for this movie were all great but the execution of the storyline is bizarre.
It strikes me as really odd to make a Sci-Fi film with a social commentary that is clearly referential to real-world racism, slavery and marginalisation (unregistered workers waiting to be picked up for illegal and underpaid construction work, unaffordable yet compulsory registration of powers, employment discrimination, police profiling and talk of how the city was built off the backs of those with powers without recognition or reparation) then cast two white guys as the protagonists while killing off women and people of colour to further the plot. The tone-deaf casting makes it read like a movie made in the early 2000s, not 2019. I can only assume this is because the Amell's produced the film and were involved in the crowdfunded short film, but it would've made sense for them to step back to supporting roles or expanded out the backstories of the other main cast and not killed them all off.
The editing at the end of the film made it seem like they were angling for a sequel, hopefully the follow-up film will be more thoughtful.
Again, conceptually interesting and not a bad film but the delivery was off.
