One of the worst movies I have ever watched. I will temper that by saying that in technical aspects, it was really well done. The CGI was shoddy and downright cringey at times but the overall cinematography was bearable and even pleasant. They played around with color schemes really nicely.
Coming to the conceptual aspects- I have never seen mental health, sexual orientation or gender identity more misrepresented in a film! When will directors stop spreading pseudoscience?? First of all, people don’t just “become gay” when they have been through traumatic experiences. In Radha’s case, that should’ve been better etched out. People also don’t just randomly transition later in life to their identified gender because they are “lonely”. Next, and perhaps the most fatal flaw- multiple personality disorder is not a thing! It’s called Dissociative Identity Disorder and while it is true that people have different personalities that they switch between, it’s not in the way it’s shown in the movie. This director also needs a good lesson on the difference between Schizophrenia and DID. In the movie all the characters were depicted separately and that Kali does move back and forth between her alters, but there is no explanation for how any of this works at least with a solid scientific grounding. I think directors need to be more responsible in depicting mental illness by first consulting with psychologists or other trained mental health professionals.
Overall, a bizarre, surrealist, absurdist MESS. The movie doesn’t know what it wants to be and is just edgy for the sake of being edgy.
