This show is fantastic! Especially Season 2, where the show delves more into the lives of the characters. It's wild to think how emotionally invested you become in these fictional people's lives. The show does a tremendous job delving into people's lives and livelihood, their wishes and desires, all in the backdrop of a space race with geopolitical consequences. The show mightily zooms between the real personal relationships of these characters and out to the space race and it's really lovely to watch.
As a space enthusiasts and lover of all things sci-fi, this show hits the mark. For All Mankind is set in an alt-history timeline where the Soviet Union gets to the moon first which continues the space race even longer. The show does a great job of introducing subtle changes to the timeline, which keeps the alt-history aspect of the show engaging, but not the sole focus. Introducing women to the space program earlier, electronic vehicles in the 80s, and a Ted Kennedy administration are some changes that were interesting to watch, but again the focus, especially in season 2, is the people of the space program.
Finally, I love the show's thesis on humanity. While we see all the ways humans are rocked with division, paranoia, and tribalism, we also see lots of heroic moments, true love, and people showing up for each other, It makes the show a heartwarming experience
