Irreversible Damage gives a cogent voice to lingering doubts about the sudden explosion of the transgender population. While very late in coming and by the looks of the reviews polarizing this book brings the conversation into the open. It is unfortunate that the tone of the book at times detracts from the message. However, the topic is one of many that people avoid discussing honestly for fear of reprisal. I respect the risk the author took and she/her courage to speak openly. Those who meet DSM V criteria and experience true gender dysphasia deserve our love and support. Those who would jump on the transgender band wagon to avoid or escape the pains of adolescence, to “fit in” also deserve our love and support. But that love and support need not be in the form of enabling false beliefs about self and contributing to the problems of their internal psychological economy. Those that would seek to capitalize on the trans fad through a social media presence and grooming adolescents ought be prosecuted. And those advertising and selling or providing accessories, from binders to packers to the demographic identified in this book ought to be banned, ignored, disliked and in all ways rendered both moot and mute.
