I don’t often review games but considering the average review of this I felt I should. This game is… extremely well made.
To preface, I play a fairly wide array of games, ranging from metroidvanias to FPSs to RPGs. I’ve played many games with good environments and the one in this game stands out as the most well designed I’ve seen to date. Between the graphics quality and the variety of plant/animal life, the environment feels like it exists on its own and the player is a minuscule part of it, if that makes sense. It’s not like any other I’ve played and you really can just get lost scaling the rainforest, in a good way.
I’m only about 10-12 hours in, but I’ve played enough to reveal the gameplay loops and they are very engaging. Maybe not to all, specifically the hardcore FPS type, but it does feel like the Avatar game should be much more than killing people and hunting big animals. That doesn’t mean the combat is dull, because while it’s not the most incredible, it is fun and fluid when you get used to it and includes a variety of ways to eliminate your targets. In this way I think Ubisoft did an excellent job. They took their time and made a great product. Should also be noted that while I liked the films I’ve never raved about them, so there’s no real bias there.
