Visually beautiful, stunning film. Why cast Channing Tatum as Mexican?? Why not use a Mexican/Mexican American actor? Why is Manolo singing Radiohead? Again, why not use original Mexican songs written by Mexicans. I get Hollywood pays lip service to diversity, but I would have liked to see more diverse casting choices, especially for the teacher.

I wanted to like it, but it was difficult for me to really feel much emotionally for the characters. I liked the potential, but wish they would have cast a black actress as 22. I could hardly suspend my belief when Tina Fey's 22 expressed something akin to being lost for someone in reality who is so privileged to get her projects greenlighted in Hollywood. The characters for me were too surface in their development, not enough emotional depth for me and there was very little jazz and too much New Age existential philosophizing. I initially thought this was a film featuring soul music and about music.
