I am finishing up the last series of Borgen and I have to say it has been rip-roaring hilarious. Hollywood nonsense has nothing on whomever made this program. I enjoy it but it's even more far fetched than James Bond. The Danes think the world revolves around them, there's only one good person in the entire show (many characters have good aspects but they all do so many many things that ruin their good reputation). This is preachy, whiny Eurobabble at its best. The only character that I'd say is a truly good person is Bent Saero and now they've written him off as demented (or being tested for it). Torben was pretty decent until he cheated on his wife. The people who do these shows really focus on the worst side of people--why can't there be more shows about the good in people. Borgen is full of corrupt, two faced, preachy people. Midsummer Murders has to change their name because they murdered everyone in the county. These Scandinavian countries that preach social justice and peace need to stop producing so many murder mystery writers. The politics are absurd--the Liberals are right winged, the Moderates and New Democrats are liberals, The New Right are moderate. They can't even get the politics straight. And why do so many Danes have a heavy Scottish accent? Isn't that Cultural Misappropriation? The portrayals of the Greenlanders is downright racist at worse and farcical at best. The dubbing looks like an Asian martial arts B- or C-movie. The subtitles rarely match what was said and often is contrary to what was actually said.

My wife and I watched Oppenheimer last night and we both give it our heartiest recommendations. It was one of the best movies I've ever seen. Three hours of non-stop suspense. You know what's going to happen but we watched bated breath to see what would happen next. The story is beautifully and expertly told. The acting is amazing. Huge performances by Murphy as Robert Oppenheimer, Downey, Jr. as Strauss, Damon as Groves and, surprisingly, Blunt as Kitty Oppenheimer. I say surprisingly because the reviews portrayed Blunt as solid but with not much of a role but she made the most of what she was given and really expressed the frustrations the viewers were feeling over Oppenheimer's treatment. I knew the history fairly well but it might have been harder if you were unaware of it. Tom Conti played a small but crucial role as Einstein. Kenneth Branagh did an excellent job as Bohr.
