A star studded cast, excellent cinematography and sets but a bit ponderous. Fresh out of the Bushido code book however, death and honour above all things. Worth the watch but for me not quite 5 star material.

A fantastic film, another Ridley Scott masterpiece. The battle scenes are legendary and the colosseum scenes also. Great cast, superb cinema.

I’ve watched too many war movies and Vietnam movies that sensationalise the war, this one cuts to the chase. None of the cast were well known but the tension throughout the film and the clever cinematography made it a very worthwhile movie, I enjoyed it. I was surprised to find it had been shot in California, not Vietnam, or indeed any jungle covered country.

A fantastic film, I’ve watched it twice in quick succession. It was a new look at the Vietnam war, a true story where the allies were facing overwhelming Vietnamese forces. Can’t recommend it enough.

If you like your sci-fi, don’t mind more than unbelievable story lines and can accept advance alien races can’t combat the odd machete, glock, shotgun and RPG, then this is a late night flick with a beer and pretzel sort of a watch. Action packed from start to finish, with martial arts thrown in.

I like westerns normally, I like Iris Elba’s work too. But this was a weird film, a cross between Sergio Leone style and the brutality of Tarantino films. Some fantastic music tracks, reggae, hip hop, rap. Highly stylised action scenes with an all black cast apart from one section. It included several people you might know if you follow black actors and singers. Overall I kinda of enjoyed it but it left me on the fence. Worth a watch and have a beer and popcorn to pass the time.

I loved this film, it reminded me in many ways of Saving Private Ryan for the action, the tension, the drama throughout. It was also refreshing to watch a WWII film about something not as well publicised. Yes Operation Market Garden and Bridge at Remagen were well known but this movie showed a different interaction and three viewpoints from the Allies, the Resistance and Dutch and the German army. None of the actors were well known but the cinematography and the realism was excellent.

Found this slow and not that good. The reality of any soldiers behaving the way they did, undisciplined and rowdy in enemy territory would end very differently one thinks. The German titles and end story titles did not auto translate so set your sub titles if you want to know the messages at the very end. Not sure what to make of it and found the storyline ponderous and dull. Shame as I liked Alexander Ludwig in Vikings.

It is a reasonable film which because it’s a true story draws you in, despite the naivety and at times stupidity of the central couple. Great sweeping landscapes showing the dangerous side of the outback. Worth the watch.

Having just wasted several hours of my life watching the David Lynch 1984 version of Dune, I can only say it is utter rubbish. Even some acting legends did nothing to help this boring, rubbish and poor sfx film. I cannot find one good word to say about it…oh yes I can, End.
