Kind of feels like the author had big ideas at the start and then couldn't resolve it even for themselves in an interesting way. So it starts well and then looses energy. Lots of paths that start and then sputter out with no resoltion. Characters get a little unbelievable or break down. Unlikable main character and not in a good way.
