The first hour of this painfully random, mistitled flick is a shallow nod to the woke mindset of modern narratives. It drowns us in commonly known facts about his influences and upbringing. It's almost as if we must pay our dues, and be enlightened, before we are allowed to reflect, love and appreciate a 30yr career, that apparently had not one original thought of its own. Contemporary rap and R&B, overtones the '50's, leaving you with the anxiety felt during the boat ride in Willy Wonka...this doesn't fit. The film says, I understand you loved him, but this is the only reason why. It never examines the soul of the artist, and leaves us with a broken mirror and smoke machine of a deceitful magic show. Another victim of cancell culture, cleverly disguised as a whistle-blower for mistreated performers. I can't wait to see how they wreck Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire.
