Linda Webb – Google

I’ve always enjoyed John Grisham’s stories and the films that came from them. However, this book was a slog. Tried many times to get back into it because it was our Book Club choice. The real story of this time period in Biloxi would have made a fascinating documentary. I never cared about the characters enough to be transported into this world. I hope Grisham isn’t at the end of his talented run of hits. Cannot recommend this book at all.

Kind of all over the map…Juliane Moore’s character tried to set straight the flawed aspects of what we all remember is Mary Kay Letourneau. You knew there had to be some explanation for her behavior with an underaged boy. It wasn’t made clear what Billy’s occupation was…something in the medical field. She baked. Where did the funds for that large home on the water come from? Portman’s role was just messy, mumbly. The film simply wasn’t focused…you came away knowing the Moore character was extremely flawed and a really awful mother. Her son George by the first marriage was fascinating, should have been given a bigger role. Would not recommend you waste your time with this one.
