The movie is a joke, and difficult to sit through. In exchange for overpriced tickets and a popcorn large enough to feed a village, you will get to see a couple high speed wind nados, and then endure what feels like a year or bad acting and lack of plot. If you feel like you deserve a punishment, this is your movie.
The acting is overall terrible with the exception of 2 barely acceptable actors with no remarkable qualities. The movie depicts a lot of call backs to the original Twister movie but unfortunately unlike the orginal they weren't able to form a functional story. This movie, like the orginal depicted a rivalry between two teams of storm chasers. The original movie has 2 teams with the same goal to usual similar tech to be the firsts to get data inside a tornado. They both want to be the team to do it. This movie has 2 teams with nothing in common to fight over. The Cowboy Gen Z Redneck combo team, that in addition to a lot of 'Yeehaaw" and "WOOO!' screaming run a social media channel where they shoot fireworks into tornados for views. The other team is simply gathering science data for a big company. You don't build any indepth feelings for either side and frankly you almost don't want to. The teams are constantly attempting to cause car accidents and run each others trucks off the road. There is no way their agendas rival each other to the insane degree of trying and cause bodily harm. The love story is somewhat flirty in a "new beginnings" she is moving from grief way.. which would have been fine! But they put in a very awkward and uncomfortable love triangle that truly doesn't feel natural (so much cringe). The original twister plot and acting surprisingly holds up way better in 2024 than this newly released movie. That is problematic when the original came out in 1996. The last and final straw for the low rating was the music soundtrack. The music and sound effects in this new movie didn't fit with most of the scenes and it instead succeeded are ruin to mood/vibe they were going for in multiple scenes. The music clashed- How do you mess up a soundtrack for a tornado movie set in the Midwest? Overall It was boring, annoying, and cringe the entire run time. I will say I was desperately trying to find something to enjoy just to justify paying money to see it.
Pros: Had some really good tornado action footage. So the moments the tornados were present and people weren't talking were rad. Special effects were well done.
Side note:
Only reason I didn't give this a 1 star rating was because I have seen true 1 star films......this film wasn't THAT bad. So it gets a 2.
