A superb and excellent effort. Congratulations to Eleanor Jones Harvey and all others involved. I am struck once again how so many smart women gravitated towards Humboldt and his message over the decades and have at times written and or translated his works for all to see and read again. Nothing is more timely in our current global warming and Mankind ( includes women) vs Nature era than Von Humboldt's message and science driven legacy. Once again this effort looks to have been brought to fruition by a large group of highly qualified females who helped the author create a great piece of Historical writing. As someone who enjoys reading about History and having some background on Alexander Von Humboldt this timely book captures the period extremely well. I also enjoyed how EJH managed to marry the many important American historical figures that were shown to have been affected by his fantastic work and personality. For the 20th Century it was Einstein searching for a unified field theory. In Humboldt's time it was Nature and his attempt to do the same in "Kosmos". Perhaps what we need to save the planet and humans is a little of both and another Von Humboldt.
