This film broke me. Yes, that is a good thing. I happened to catch this on Netflix while browsing for something new to watch. The title, A Silent Voice, caught my eye. The animated cover looked pleasing to my eye, so I thought "Why not?" I am so glad I did. This film hits really hard. It uses a very powerful, yet very relatable, topic that we are all familiar with, and crafts a story that can make you feel a wide range of emotions: Joy, sorrow, anger, hatred, love... it tackles them all. It captured my attention from the beginning and refused to let go to the very end. It gripped me, strangled me, and stabbed me in the cold, dark abyss where my blackened dead heart once resided. This has become one of my favorite films. This is not a film I will ever forget.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. While it was poorly received upon release, this movie is a diamond compared to the trash that has been released in the last decade. The incredible, brilliant use of CGI to make this vibrant world come alive was ahead of its time, much like many Wachowski movies were. Not only did they manage to paint the a masterpiece upon the silver screen with an amazingly unique style of storytelling, but they also managed to stay true to the source material. The over-the-top cartoony aesthetics and ridiculous stunts were not only accurate, but highly entertaining, filled with morals about the importance of family, going after your passion, and the evils of greed. If you're looking for a fast-paced film about unrealistic racing, there is none better than Speed Racer. Warning: not for the photosensitive or seizure-prone viewer.
