I will chime in with a few other posters who mentioned the one-star review by Hetvi Shah - it might not be everyones' cup of tea but I got the impression that that it was more about the anger over feeling left out because they didn't enjoy the movie and so many people did, rather than about the movie itself. Weird flex. Anyway, I am a former tv weather anchor and a huge fan of the original Twister, and while I'm afraid that no sequel (or chaser movie) will live up to the original, Twisters is a fun, summer movie blockbuster about serious subject matter. There were many moments that had me pulling up my feet and whispering "oh %&*$" and, yes, some feel-good moments. The characters are likeable and the actors turned in fine performances. The special effects were spectacular. I was only able to see it in standard presentation because all the RDX and IMAX showings were sold out weeks before I could clear my schedule to see it, so I imagine it's much more impressive if you are still able to experience it as a park ride as intended. But even seeing it in "2-D", I enjoyed it a lot.
Cons: (SPOILER WATCH) They spend very little time chasing and an inordinate amount of time showing them trying to save people and get them to safety. This takes place in Oklahoma. There shouldn't be that many clueless people running through the streets screaming and not knowing what to do in the event of a tornado. Tornadoes hit with very little warning, but on a weather alert day when showed every news station talking about the imminent tornado outbreak, people at an outdoor event would have been checking those "$10 phone apps." There is some character development/backstory lacking that was what made Twister so endearing. (SPOILER WARNING) Also, some plot gaps - Kate never gives Tyler her last name, yet his team is able to track her to her mother's home?
If you made it this far, go see the movie. It was made to be a summer blockbuster and if that it what you're looking for, you won't be disappointed. If not, keep driving to the art house and see an indie film. No shame in that, either.
