Just watched this movie two nights ago, and it was pretty alright. Timothee Chalamet did great as Wonka (which pleasantly surprised me). It was a charming and funny movie, and the cinematography was great.
Main problems: I wasn't sure who the target audience was. The way it was filmed and the vibe they were going for was definitely super childlike, but then they would throw in some jokes (don't remember specific instance, but i remember thinking while watching that a kid shouldn't be hearing that) that weren't for little kids. And they also dealt with random stuff that kids also shouldn't be watching (like death threats, abusive people, mother getting child stolen from her). So that felt kind of off.
Also, whoever was cast as Noodles shouldn't have been cast. Her acting was so flat, it kind of took the charm away from the movie. They should've hired someone with better acting skill who could complement Chalamet.
Also, the part that weirded me out the most was Noodle and Wonka's relationship. I usually love the sibling-vibe relationship but this felt so off. It kept giving me the impression that it was almost romantic and it totally creeped me out.
Another thing I didn't particularly like is how they deviated from the source material, but I guess that's to be expected.
Over all though, it wasn't a bad movie. I'd give it a watch, if you want, but you're not missing anything incredible if you don't.
