I read this to my son who is 8. It grew on me as I read through it. I really had no idea how chickens act and was shocked by some of their behavior. Luckily, there was a dog secretly protecting the little red hen. It was a story of resilience and finding a purpose. We had lots of emotions for an animal story where they don't even talk!
